UK Student Visas (Formerly Tier 4) in Leeds, Bradford and Nationwide across the UK
A student visa (formerly Tier 4 general visa) allows students aged 16 and over to live and study in the UK. Anyone from outside and inside the EEA/EU can apply for this visa.
If successful, you can stay in the UK for the duration of your course and a maximum of five years if you are over 18 and studying at degree level.
You can apply for a student visa up to six months
Before the start of your course. Once your visa expires, you can apply to have it extended to continue your studies or apply for a different type of visa, for example, a graduate visa. You also have the option to bring dependants with you, subject to application.
A person applying for a student visa must meet the criteria below to be considered eligible.
- Have at least 70 points on the points-based immigration system
- Be aged 16 or over
- Have an unconditional offer to study an eligible course by a licenced student sponsor
- Have parental consent if aged 16 or 17
- Be able to read, speak and understand English at a competent level
- Be able to support yourself financially during your stay

UK Student Visa Costs
Below is an outline of the student visa costs involved when applying for a skilled worker visa:

£363 to apply from outside the UK and £490 to extend or switch to a student visa from inside the UK

You need to prove you have the funds to pay your course fees for at least one academic year
Healthcare surcharge
You may be required to pay a healthcare surcharge, costs may vary but it is usually lower than some other types of visas
Demonstrate you can support yourself financially
You usually need funds available to demonstrate you can support yourself financially during your stay. The amount you need is dependent on the course you are undertaking but is usually £1,334 per month (for up to nine months) for courses in London and £1,023 per month (for up to nine months) for courses outside London
